Long Range Cordless Phones

Cordless phones are the standard in the marketplace today, offering the most in options and convenience, with technology making them better all the time. A long range cordless phone is the more popular choice than the simple short range and hands-free version. People want to be able to talk while walking farther, to save time and to be able to continue doing what they were previous to being interrupted.

How can you tell which model is right for you? First of all, determine how far away from the base you would like to be while talking to someone else. Would you most likely stay within your home, or would you take the long range cordless phone outside to continue your conversation? Do you have a large yard or even a farm with acres of space? Try to figure out the distance between where you would set your base and the farthest point from it that you would use your long range cordless phone.

Once you know what kind of range you need, head to the store. The hertz size of the phone determines much of your range. A long range cordless phone in the 900 MHz range will be able to travel about 1,000 feet from the base, but that distance can be seriously reduced by obstructions that will interfere with the frequency. Any physical object can reduce the range of your long range cordless phone, turning it very ordinary.

Choosing a model with a higher hertz frequency, such as more popular 2.4 GHz, allows you more distance but you’ll have to keep in mind the reduction of range due to obstructions in your path. Also, make sure that you select a long range cordless phone that uses a digital frequency, not an analog one. Digital has far better reception and range than analog models.

Interference from other radio frequencies is a large part of customer complaints. Electronic equipment in other people’s houses can disrupt the signal of your long range cordless phone, and you may end up having a scratchy line, hissing sounds or worse, three-way calling when you’re only talking to one other person. Hearing other people’s phone conversations in the middle of yours is a common complaint, and there isn’t much you can do to avoid the problem, save trying to switch channels or call back later.

Are they worth the disadvantages of iffy range and interference? Yes, absolutely. The drawbacks of range are something you’ll get used to quickly as you’ll be able to talk and wander, just not as far as you expected. You’ll often find yourself mentally marking the ‘no-talk’ zones where interference makes the sound too scratchy for a conversation, and you’ll avoid them. A long range cordless phone is like any electronic out there today and they are subject to cons, but they come packed with the pros of freedom and convenience.
