The Truth About Cell Service

I guess I live in a bad area because the cell service situation is a mess. Though the coverage I have is great where I live, it skips out on me when I travel just one hour south to see my parents. What’s really bad is that this is how I had to choose my service provider. It wasn’t a matter of features or price; it was a matter of being able to use my phone. Even though it is spotting in many areas, it was still the best coverage in my immediate area.

Even sadder is that my brother, who lives down by my mother, has to have a different company for the same reason. His cell service covers where they live, but it doesn’t work well where I live. In fact, where he lives I have absolutely no cell service what so ever. The reason for this is that his town just recently allowed one company to put up cell towers, but will not allow anyone else. They’ve pretty much allowed one company to create a monopoly in their town.

I thought that perhaps this problem with cell service was something that was only a problem in the area where I live, but I have friends in large cities that tell me they are having issues within their own city. They have many dead spots in their cell service, and their providers don’t seem to be able to tell them why. When they look at the maps of the service area where they live they see that is should be solid and strong, but for some reason it is not. They have even said that in one day they have coverage in their apartment but the strength of that signal will go down to almost nothing the next day.

Though cell service is not something that anyone claims is perfect, we all know that there are companies that take the shortcut and the service is not what they claim it to be. It might come to a point where you choose a company based on honestly instead of the reach of their cell service, though that will always play a role I’m sure. You have to decide what you think is most important. My youngest brother thinks he wants to choose cell service based on what phone he wants, but he’s never been very practical. The rest of us around here have to go by coverage area whether we like it or not.
